Fostering Healthy Friendships

Carrie KittingerFaith, VLogs

I was in high school in the early 1980’s and attended my fair share of Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith concerts. They were infamous for ending their concerts with the song, Friends are Friends Forever, if the Lord’s the Lord of Them. Those of you who know me, know I spent my growing up years moving across the country often. I have a heart for the lonely, those on the fringes, and the newbies.

I decided years ago that I needed to lay aside the BFF  (best friends forever) myth and choose to foster many dear friendships – new and old. Remember the friendship jingle, “make new friends, but keep the old – one is silver and the other gold“? How about we consider all of our friends to be gold? Relationships are to be treasured.

Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

Whenever I read this verse I think of God’s Word remaining forever as well as my brothers and sisters in the Lord. Let’s choose to treasure these! Have you allowed differences to destroy a friendship? Maybe there is some gold to be mined in that relationship. Ask the Lord to give you His eyes for who He treasures.
