A Faithful Man

Carrie KittingerFaith, Marriage

carriekittinger-a-faithful-manI consider myself twice blessed with faithful men in my life – my father and my husband. My father was and continues to be a faithful man – to his wife, his family and to The Lord. My husband is a faithful man as well.

I experienced a broken engagement before meeting Danny, and I often thank The Lord for that painful time. Unfaithfulness is what spurred on the break-up and when a man is unfaithful before marriage, there is a chance he will be after marriage as well.

Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?

Proverbs 20:6

This is my husband’s birthday week and I am honored to be his wife and to celebrate him. There are many attributes I could use to describe Danny, but the one I always come back to is faithfulness.  The following are a few of the many ways I have observed faithfulness in him over the years:

  • Besides his great looks, what first attracted me to Danny was his dedication to following Jesus; a faithful man.
  • Before I knew Danny, he had graduated from college with highest honors and earned his CPA; a faithful man.
  • For 28 years, I have never once felt betrayed by his heart or actions; a faithful man.
  • Danny has provided well for our family and worked for the same company for over 25 years – some days fulfilling, some days boring; a faithful man.
  • He is a devoted, fun and adoring father; a faithful man.
  • Ever since I have known him, Danny has been involved in being discipled as well as discipling others in their walk with The Lord; a faithful man.
  • Even in the difficult moments of our marriage, he continues to be steadfast in his love for me; a faithful man.
  • Danny honors his extended family in unbelievable ways; a faithful man.
  • Since 1971 Danny has been a Miami Dolphins fan through many losing seasons; a faithful man!

The biggest success my son or future son-in-law could ever achieve would be to live their lives faithfully to Jesus and family.

A faithful man who can find?  I believe this is a challenge, not an impossibility.  Faithful people continually choose to die to self. Only in the Kingdom of God can death to self truly be a gain.

If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.  What good is it for a man to gain the whole world and yet lose or forfeit his very self.

Luke 9:23-25

For those of you not married, put faithfulness on the top of your future spouse list. If you are married, look for faithfulness in your man and appreciate it. Some of you have been stung by betrayal and I am sorry. I pray that you find healing at the feet of Jesus who will NEVER leave you or forsake you. For those of you who are bored with your faithful man and contemplating unfaithfulness yourself, wake up and be careful!  It will bite, it will wound and you will regret it.

Regardless of our past encounters with faithfulness, let’s not project our negative experiences onto our relationship with the Lord.  The very fact that the sun rises every morning is proof of the faithfulness of God.  Even when we – or anyone else – are faithless, He is still faithful (2 Timothy 2:13).  May we also not allow our past experiences to cloud every relationship down the road.  There can be faithfulness after unfaithfulness.  Each of us must check our own heart since we have all been unfaithful in one way or another.

God is the God of second chances.  His mercies are new every morning.  Great is His faithfulness! Lord, please give us your eyes and your heart for others and help us to be people of great faith.

Happy birthday to my faithful man, Danny Kittinger!
